    How to Use the llms.txt Generator
    1. Enter your site name: it becomes the H1 at the top of the file.
    2. Write a short summary of what your site offers and who it is for.
    3. Add sections such as Services or Guides, and add the key pages in each one with a short note.
    4. Add an Optional section for pages AI tools can skip when they need a shorter file.
    5. Copy or download the file and upload it to the root of your site, so it loads at yoursite.com/llms.txt.
    What Is llms.txt?
    llms.txt is a Markdown file that points AI tools to the most useful pages on a website. Jeremy Howard of Answer.AI proposed it in 2024. A valid file has these parts, in this order:
    • An H1 with the name of your site. This is the only required part.
    • A blockquote with a short summary of the site.
    • Optional paragraphs with extra details.
    • H2 sections with lists of links, written as [Page name](URL): short note.
    • An Optional section for secondary links that AI tools can skip.
    Should You Add an llms.txt File?
    Support is still limited. Google says Search ignores llms.txt and you do not need one to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode, and no major AI company has confirmed that its crawlers read the file on ordinary websites. It is used most on developer documentation sites and by some AI agents and coding tools. It takes a few minutes and does no harm, but clear content and a site AI crawlers can reach matter more, so check that your robots.txt does not block them.

    Where do I put my llms.txt file?
    Upload it to the root of your domain so it loads at https://yoursite.com/llms.txt. On WordPress you can upload it with your host’s file manager or FTP, and some SEO plugins can create one for you.
    

    Does llms.txt help SEO or AI citations?
    There is no evidence that it does yet. Google says Search ignores the file, and no major AI company has confirmed that its crawlers use it.
    

    Is llms.txt the same as robots.txt?
    No. robots.txt tells crawlers which pages they may crawl. llms.txt only suggests which pages are most useful, and it cannot block anything.
    

    Which pages should I include?
    Include the pages that best explain what you do, such as your main service or product pages, key guides, pricing, about and contact pages. Leave out thin pages, tag archives and anything behind a login.
    

    Is this tool free and does it store my data?
    Yes, it is free with no account needed. Everything runs in your browser and nothing is sent to a server.
