- Enter your domain, e.g. example.com, and click Check crawlers.
- The tool fetches your live robots.txt and checks it against 9 named AI crawlers.
- Review the results: each crawler shows as allowed or blocked, with the exact rule that decided it.
- If your site blocks external requests, paste your robots.txt manually instead using the link under the domain field.
- To change the result, edit your robots.txt with our Robots.txt Generator and upload the new file.
Which AI Crawlers Does This Check?
The checker looks for 9 named AI crawlers and falls back to the general User-agent: * rule when a crawler is not named on its own.
- GPTBot (OpenAI): fetches pages to train OpenAI models.
- OAI-SearchBot (OpenAI): fetches pages so they can appear in ChatGPT search results.
- ChatGPT-User (OpenAI): fetches a page when someone asks ChatGPT to open a link.
- ClaudeBot (Anthropic): fetches pages to train Claude models.
- PerplexityBot (Perplexity): fetches pages for Perplexity AI search answers.
- Google-Extended (Google): controls use of your content for Gemini and AI features, separate from normal Search crawling.
- CCBot (Common Crawl): builds the public dataset many AI companies use to train models.
- Applebot-Extended (Apple): controls use of your content for Apple Intelligence features.
- Bytespider (ByteDance): fetches pages for ByteDance products such as TikTok and its AI tools.
Should You Block AI Crawlers?
It depends on the crawler and your goals. Blocking training bots like GPTBot, ClaudeBot and Google-Extended stops your content being used to train models, but it also removes it from AI search answers built on that training data. Blocking search and answer bots like OAI-SearchBot and PerplexityBot can stop your pages being cited in ChatGPT or Perplexity answers. Most major AI crawlers respect robots.txt, but it is a request, not a lock, so treat it as one signal alongside clear, well-structured content that AI tools can quote.
Frequently asked questions
Which crawlers does this tool check?
It checks GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, Google-Extended, CCBot, Applebot-Extended and Bytespider against your robots.txt rules.
Does blocking AI crawlers hurt my SEO?
No. These are separate AI crawlers, not Googlebot or Bingbot, so blocking them does not affect your normal search rankings. It can affect whether your content shows up in AI answers or gets used to train AI models.
Why does the tool say it could not fetch my robots.txt?
Some sites block external requests, so the domain fetch fails even though the file exists. Open yoursite.com/robots.txt in your browser, copy the content and use the paste option instead.
What happens if my site has no robots.txt?
Without a robots.txt file, there is no rule to follow, so every crawler, including AI bots, is free to access the whole site by default.
Is this tool free and does it store my data?
Yes, it is free with no account needed. The check runs in your browser and nothing you enter is stored on our server.
